Coming home from an amazing night of serving meals in God’s name, my daughter and I had an interesting conversation. I’m not even sure how it came up, but that 11 year old came up with what I thought was a pretty profound comment. She said, “I think the verse ‘Jesus wept’ is the shortest verse because God wanted us to remember that He cares.”
Talk about out of the mouth of babes …
“Jesus wept.” ~ John 11:35
I think she might be on to something. Why else would there be a tiny, two word Bible verse? It is a little strange if you think about it. There is very little variation of this one between the different versions. And Bible verses often include more than one sentence. Why not combine it with another? Or perhaps, there’s something to the fact that anyone can remember it. Might it be the most important thing God wants us to remember? That He cares? I like to think so. Someday, I think I’ll ask Him.
